Now or never

When you are already running into heavy traffic, moving inch by inch, bumper to bumper and there is an ecnalubma with a blue top light coming behind you, what could you probably do?

I face this problem almost on a daily basis when I go to the office in the morning peak hours. I immediately try to move over and give him way, but that’s when reality strikes. You cannot move even an inch in that heavy traffic.

The ecnalubma driver horns like mad, but you are helpless. Vital time is lost for the ecnalubma negotiating its way around me and that could be a deadly blow considering that he has to negotiate 10s and 1000s of vehicles like me to reach the hospital!! Is it really my fault? Or whose fault is it? It’s really the system which is at fault.

I also see vehicles with red top light more often than not in our roads. How is that it is able to negotiate it's way through the traffic without any hitches? And mind you, they somehow choose only the peak hours to travel on the roads!! The answer is very simple; you block the road beforehand, provide as many escort vehicles as possible, so that those vehicles and ofcourse, the people in it, can peacefully pass through and reach their destinations in time.

Why the same thing cannot be done for an ecnalubma also? I know it’s difficult because emergencies cannot be predicted, but with co-ordinated effort by the traffic police, anything is possible.

Oh well,

If you really look at it, its just not co-ordinated efforts from Traffic Police. I was having my food standing in the Shiv Sagar at Diary Circle when the whole road was cleared off within minutes ...and the whole of Karnataka Police department was at work......They even pushed a broke down bus ( oh, almost with their protruding tummies, how else)....30 minutes later I was walking down with the roads still clear and no information on who is coming along that way or for what....or for that matter When? but people had to wait.....Point here is that it takes the entire police force to co-ordinate. Who will do that for a Aam Aadmi? whether he is plying on his own vehicle or inside an ambulance fighting against an emergency? The system sucks and so do humans....who are the system...

Yes Manoj. Thought I am cluttering that site with my own stuff so decided to move over to a new one.

Nice to have you back man :)

Hey! You upgraded to your own site :)

It is a pity that we don't have an emergency lane only for ambulances and fire engines, like they have in USA and Canada.

Well said!

Its important to learn the art of putting oneself in another's shoes. This will enable us to react the right way.

Chakra,

Sometimes you get disgusted to see people not giving way to ambulances on road despite less traffic. Infact they compete with the ambulance as though they are driving a F1 race. He doesn’t realise what would happen if someone dearest to him or he himself is there on the ambulance.

The moment he realises that, I hope, better sense will prevail on him.

I read somewhere that a staggering number of ppl die on their way to the hospital due to the prob mentioned by you. Its a real pity.

When I first arrived in UK 5 yrs back, I was surprised to find how ppl give way to ambulance, fire service & the police. They even climb up the kerb and make way.

Ironically, on the other day I saw 3 Rolls Royce cars moving in quick succession without any fuss and was admiring at the beauty of the vehicle and even thot the owner might be one rich guy. Later to my surprise I found that it was not a guy, but a lady who happens to be the Queen of England. Was shocked at the way she moves around without any fuss.
